"The Other": A Restructuring of the Islamic Concept, by Dr. Fathi Osman.

  • Family & Women Issues
Family is the core of any society. Women are critcal pivot of the family. God sets the rules and the rights of women to achieve a healthy Islamic family environment. Dr. Osman, in this paper, addresses many of the distorted understandings and interpretations about women and the family in Islam.

Say ye: "We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between one and another of them: And we bow to Allah (in Islam)." (2:136)

God has revealed his message to Human Beings through his Prophets since the beginning of creation in order to improve relations. Interfaith dialogs through writings and meetings are of extreme importance to bring us closer.

Dr. Osman has been an active participant in building bridges between Muslims and Non Muslims. The following are dialogs and interpretation of Islamic perspective showing the importance of such relation.

O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honored of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things). (49:13)

It is part of the Mercy of Allah that thou dost deal gently with them Wert thou severe or harsh-hearted, they would have broken away from about thee: so pass over (their faults), and ask for (Allah's) forgiveness for them; and consult them in affairs (of moment). Then, when thou hast taken a decision put thy trust in Allah. For Allah loves those who put their trust (in Him). (3:159)

Communication and consultation between Muslims is ordained by God. Many centers and organizations have thought about Dr. Osman insights and analysis to address some of the issues raised.

Following are a few interviews conducted with Dr. Osman.
